Chapter 6: Finding Creativity

Dear reader,

Wow--your teeth look so white. :) What toothpaste do you use?

I consider myself to be a creative person. I love creative writing, blogging, I play the piano and compose songs, I sketch portraits and I have my own style--I also enjoy activities such as drama, singing and dancing. I wouldn't mind taking up dance classes the moment I am settled down (because it's something I want to try :) ), and I continue to work on creative projects daily, purely for personal satisfaction. I have learnt to hate sitting and doing nothing. (And watching soaps is doing nothing unless you are doing a research project on it :P) and most of all, I am trying to do all of these things with a career, a solid working life, one rich with activity and fulfillment.

Creativity allows you to escape from reality. It allows you to wade out, or go very deep inside the waters of your own mind. It allows you to explore more possibility and ultimately teaches you more about yourself. In Britney Spear's song "Circus" the first line of the song goes: "There's only two type of people in the world, the one's that entertain and the ones that observe". She couldn't have nailed it more on the head. You are either creating and giving to the world, or you are being stimulated by it. There is no right way to life, but in this article I do hope to enlighten you to the possibilities of a creative lifestyle.

First off, everyone can be creative. It is a long ladder in terms of skill and development and there are some talented people who, when born, are placed further up, but it is ultimately the same ladder that we are all climbing. There are few Mozarts that are born, and some people like Michael Jackson, who have the talent premade but what you should understand is however strong your talents are, they will ultimately fail you if you do not work on them every single day. MJ was a man who worked until he reached perfection and even when he thought he couldn't dance any better, he was still cursing himself for not being the best he could be. However great you are, we cannot overcome gravity when climbing that ladder. What good is a beautiful song, if you can't write another? What good is learning to dance, when you don't know all the styles? The world is full of people and there are so many ways to be inspired, and so many ways to get better. The journey of creativity goes on way after death itself.

Secondly I believe that creativity topples over every other type of lifestyle. Which lifestyles do we want the most? Which pictures do we have on our walls and desktop backgrounds? Celebrities. Ask yourself, why are these people famous? 90% of time it is because of their creative accomplishments. Some would argue that they are not achievements at all and perhaps these people lack talent and don't deserve their fame, but the result is the same. We go to school to get good grades, to go to college, then university to get a good job and make the parents proud and then we are plunged into the working world: a cycle of robotic morning to evening activity, where you hate your job and do the same routine over and over again to make a living. What do we ultimately work for? The arts.  It's simple. Your goal is to become wealthy and successful so you can spend your money on music, films, art for your house, travelling, night's out where they play music, for clothes (that are designed), and televisions, Ipods, computers all creatively engineered.
Academia, work, and money--they are all servants to creativity.

So don't look so blue, give me a big hug, and let me give you some advice to get started:

1. Drama: Whether you are young or old, there are amateur theatre companies in every village. If there isn't, then make one like I did. Drama sets you free socially and it's extremely fun to do.

2. Art: We can all doodle, therefore we can all draw (don't lie to yourself :P) and it is a skill that one can improve on. There a thousand tutorials online that can teach you. They make great gifts for people and it is highly impressive to outsiders because you can show it off anywhere. Some people have made a fortune of creating a toilet seat in a square room and putting it into an art gallery. What are you doing with your life? :D Haha.

3. Music: Now don't not say that this isn't for you. I see you shaking your bum when that Beyonce song comes on. :) I hear it when you sing in the bathroom. I see you twitching your toes and rocking your feet....I see you a lot actually....I'm your stalker....
Everyone should be playing a musical instrument. Imagine a world of musicians--imagine how many more amazing pieces of music we would have right now we were all composing. If you enjoy listening, you should be playing: it tells me that you have a connection with good sounds. Playing instruments helps with brain function and improves your rhythm in dancing, and your timing, it also improves your ears and makes you more in tune with different sounds. Most importantly it triggers emotions in people. Women go crazy for a man who can sing, or dance, or play a musical instrument, or write. The time of the butch caveman with the hairy chest beating club is over. The time of the artistic man is now.

4. Writing: This improves your language skills which you use in verbal and written communication, it also allows you to share your thoughts. Language is thought, and so the more you write, the more that you think and the more that you think, the smarter you become, and the smarter you become--the greater you will ultimately be.

5. Photography: Simple, yet effective. I'm picking this hobby up literally tomorrow. Take your camera out and take some random shots--no nudes if you can help it :D, no--take pictures of anything that is beautiful to you--again (no nudes if you can help it) creativity is about sharing something that is magical to you with the world. It is a selfless thing. Photography is all about sharing. (No nudes if you can help it)

6. Humour:  Many women should learn this one. Men have it going on already and for those who need to be more funny--you can be. You already are--go with the moment and once you have it figured out, you can go and attract a beautiful girl who isn't funny. For those girls who are already funny--thank God for you.

And finally, if you are already an artist--let me leave you with one more grain of wisdom. If you have ambition (and I hope you do), for the next big book, next big hit, next best electronic invention--do not stress yourself out because you want it to come in one go. Creativity is all about feeling and living in the moment (see previous article). Creativity is about living your life, and what artists put in their work is naturally going to be their experiences. The greatest artists of our time were people who were consistent with their artistry--they are people who have lived. It is only then that we can become truly creative. Ideas will come to you when you live and experience live's challenges and rewards--don't go looking or sit pondering over them.

Right, I'm off to do something else :). I hope you enjoyed it. Remember, I appreciate the likes and the +1 doodads that you can help me with on my page. Or you can leave me a comment and share it on Facebook. Or, you can do something creative like hug me right now. Cyber hugs are creative too, I just invented them--and so are cyber kisses. Oops--I just cyber kissed you. Not so tough now, are you? :D.

Peace and love.
