Chapter 9: Asian Persuasion

Dear reader,

It all starts with a surprise. Are you ready? This will absolutely blow you mind--I'm warning you....
 Daniel, the author of this blog, also known as Huli, is Asian. I know! OH MY WORD! I'll get you some whisky. Calm yourself down, we don't want everyone to know :).

I was born and raised in the UK with a Filipino mama and a European father. I have all of mama's genes: the dark hair and eyes, the tanned skin, the full lips and yet, my features are predominantly my father's. The shape of my face and the deepness of my eyes, the high cheek bones and my height. I come from a family of giants on my papa's side. It is one of the benefits of being mixed race.

Mama comes from the Philippines, one of the most beautiful places on Earth. For those who don't know much about it, the Philippines is a group of exotic islands south of Japan, and north of Malaysia. It is a hub for tourism, a "paradise on Earth". Boracay Island, which I visited when I was three months old, is an example of this. It won awards on many occasions for having the most beautiful beaches in the world.

But this isn't the main reason to why I'm proud to be Filipino, or Asian, actually. I am proud because I believe Asians are one of the greatest races on Earth, in every way that "great" can be defined. Today's article will hope to persuade you to think the same, if you don't know it already :). So the next Asian person you meet, run up to them and give them a huge hug. They will probably run away at first, or faint, or shriek and karate kick you in the groin, but after reading this article, this is a risk that you will be willing to take.

Growing up with an Asian mama meant discipline. It meant learning how to respect your elders and it also meant learning things very fast, or no dinner. Asian families are predominantly strict with parenting. The result is that children are good mannered, they respect and often fear their parents. Asian families tend to be closely knit (often children would have their parents live with them in their own houses when older). I will not generalize in this article, but on many occasions in my home town I have seen young mother's swearing a their children giving them absolute hell, and watching these children no taller than my knee, swear and shout back, and they do this because it's all they've ever known--it's all their parents ever given them.

 Let me tell you something :). if you did this in an Asian family, discipline would kiss you in the face and you'll wake up the next morning as a changed person. I'll leave it at that :D. Don't get me wrong, I  have some amazing Western friends and they all up grew up more than fine, but their remain cultural differences in the UK alone, that would astonish the average Asian parent today.

Asian parents motivate their children young to do every activity with the goal of greatness; laziness is not an option. Asian people in my experience tend to be very hard working and determined to reach their goals. Western people sometimes remark that because a person is Asian they have a natural knack over the other guy for getting something done. Often this is true but not because Asians are born as talented individuals. It is true because they study hard, work hard and hone their talents and skills more than most people. What is the result? It means that China can run home tied to the USA with the majority of gold medals at the Olympics. It means that Asians make great students. It also means that the West are now looking to the East with the view of China being as an absolute force to reckoned with globally. It also means that Asians perform well in every single art form, including music (see pianist Lang Lang) singing, dancing, acting and blogging (see Huli Adventures :D).

The only grades that Asian parents know to exist are an "A"/ distinction, or a FAIL. There was never anything in between. "B" might as well stand for "Butt-Head" or something like that. You may call this torture or not giving the child the freedom that it deserves, but growing up this way made me realize that it it was the biggest gesture of love that a person could give you. Every tweak, every tug and push that my parents gave me meant one step closer to becoming the person I am today.

Asian people are also amazing in relationships. Why we don't have the reputation of the French as the "world's greatest lovers", *coughs* rubbish, the qualities in Asian people are perfect for strong stable relationships... and obviously good love making too, because by now, seriously, what can't we do well? haha :P. Shall I write you a list? :D You bet.

1. Asian cuisine is delicious. I am not talking takeway food. That isn't Asian food. Try the real  native dishes; ask your Asian friend to take you home, whether they are Indian, Thai, Filipino or Chinese. The flavors are heavenly. Guess what? When we were little, our parents taught us how to cook, and how to cook really well. It's all part of the independence psychology training. This means girl or boy. So ladies, if you want a man who will look after you--go Asian. Men, if you want to be a chode in front of the television and watch your game, get an Asian woman--she will do it all as second nature for you.
2. Asian people are smart. I've already touched on how good Asian students are. I know many Asian people who are at least tri-lingual with the knowledge of Mandarin Chinese and English, the two widest spoken languages in the world. The result is that often Asian people land themselves very nice careers and earn a lot of money, and they know how to spend it. On that good food, baby, yes, and high-tech Western gadgets like Ipads and Galaxy's....because Asian people love owning novelties and brands like that. 
3. Asian people are talented. Often you can be with an Asian person in a relationship and find out that they have another talent or skill that they weren't telling you about. Due to the high discipline and pressure, they are usually very modest people. Many Chinese for example can play the piano and they play it very well. They will never tell you though :P. Filipino's are great singers. Look up the recent UK version of "The Voice", look up Joseph Apostol. Look up the last season's runner up Jessica Sanchez of American Idol. Do the artists Bruno Mars, Nicole Scherzinger, Enrique Inglesias ring a bell? Did you know that the majority of female vocals in Disney films were sung by Leah Salonga, a hugely talented singer who is also Filipino? Far East Movement? If you are a fan of Starcraft, do not play against Koreans--you will lose. GG. Asians are that good. Period. Psy's Gangnam style is the most watched music video on the Web. Need I say more? Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Bruce Lee? Oh my word. Do you want to fight them? Please let me see it.
4. Asian people are beautiful. My girlfriend is gorgeous and do you know where she gets it from? Do you know where I get it from? :P Haha. I am joking. (Not joking at all). Our mamas. Asian women are beautiful beyond belief, whether you are talking about Indian, Pakistani, Malay, Filipino, Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese, Korean, or Japanese. They are radiant and stunning. Their hair is long, silky and fine. They don't need conditioner. Their faces have lovely shapes, their features are smaller and do not age with time. My mama actually ages in reverse. They are petite and slim--their diets maintain very slender bodies and very clear skin. Most of all, as Asian people we know how to look after ourselves--we are clean, we smell like forests of jasmine and roses (even I do, so sniff me when you next see me) and often we can look after you too. We can eliminate your body odor faster than any deodrant can. We just whack you over the head. It works. It's proven. It is known. 
5. Asians care. Whether it is about having strong families who will love and protect you, or husbands and wives who will do anything for you--in my experience Asian people are kind and generous and most of all, hospitable people. They will look after you, they will be loving if you show them love--they will treat you with respect, and they will punish you if you show none. 

So start making those Asian babies! :P. Flirt with that cute, shy, Asian girl, and stop giving the Asian geeky guy with glasses no attention. He has it going you, you silly woman. :D, haha.
